Oslo is experiencing a second puberty. One of dots and fields and bands, and central place theories and diffusion. One of skyscrapers and parks and cultural dissemination. One controlled by the highways and trains and planners and developers and politicians. One of reproachable moralism and myopia.
The waterfront of oslo is perhaps like no other in the world. In contrast to the perception of edge, the terminus of urbanity and the beginning of infinity, the oslo waterfront is a void of indeterminacy, a demilitarized zone between two complimentary, unadulterated conditions. Each constantly awaiting proliferation. Rather than to stitch, extend, connect, or romanticize this edge (a 153 ha site), our project, through scenario planning, investigates the outright transformation of the entire waterfront. A projection where architecture, urbanism, landscape - culture, organization, and structures - form a new integrated whole.Appropriating the incredible, often invisible qualities of oslo, freed by a new geography of time space, a venture in urban potentials is explored: swapping, grafting, re-virginization, cross-programming, alienation, and infraresidual.Virtual aerials with invisible representations of the new that enjoy the multiple dynamic states of the city, intend to question everything, liberating us to design everything. The unity of space is no longer a prerequisite. The imperative of the internal cohesion of cities is nostalgic.
